CTP Claims and Your Certificate of Fitness
If you've been injured in a motor vehicle accident in NSW, you may be entitled to benefits under the Compulsory Third Party (CTP) scheme, regulated by SIRA under the Motor Accident Injuries Act 2017. To access statutory benefits — including treatment, income support, and rehabilitation — you need a Certificate of Fitness from a medical practitioner.
Claims Doctor provides same-day telehealth consultations with a SIRA-experienced doctor who issues your Certificate of Fitness during the video call.
What Is a Certificate of Fitness?
The Certificate of Fitness is the CTP equivalent of the WorkCover Certificate of Capacity. It documents your injuries from the motor vehicle accident, assesses your capacity for work and daily activities, and outlines your treatment needs. Your CTP insurer uses this certificate to process your claim and approve treatment.
Key Difference: CTP vs WorkCover
CTP uses a Certificate of Fitness (not Certificate of Capacity). The review period cannot exceed 28 days per SIRA guidelines. CTP consultations are billed at AMA rates to the CTP insurer — not SIRA-gazetted rates.
What Happens During Your CTP Consultation
Accident History
Your doctor takes a detailed history of the accident — the mechanism of injury, your symptoms since the accident, and the impact on your daily life, work, and activities.
Injury Assessment
Clinical assessment via video — examining your injuries, pain levels, range of motion, and functional limitations. Common CTP injuries include whiplash, soft tissue injuries, fractures, concussion, and psychological trauma.
Certificate of Fitness
Your Certificate of Fitness is completed during the call, documenting your injuries, fitness for work, and treatment recommendations. Sent digitally to you and your CTP insurer.
Treatment Coordination
Your doctor arranges referrals for physiotherapy, imaging, specialist consultation, or psychology as clinically indicated — all billed to your CTP insurer.
